Small Space Living: Thriving in a 350 SqFt Bach During Renovation

Imagine this: We are going from the spacious comfort of a 3-bedroom house to a charming yet petite 350-square-feet bach. That's the adventure my partner and I are embarking as we decided to move into our Airbnb bach while starting a new renovation project. The journey is going to be filled with lessons, surprises, and creative solutions for harmonious living in close quarters. In this blog post, we'll share MY pre-move expectations and what I believe this is going to look like for us. It should be easy right? Just maintain personal space, stay organized, and manage storage efficiently in a smaller living space.

Below are some helpful tips for living in small spaces with your other half that might help you keep your sanity.

Throughout the journey I will post updates on how we are doing living in small quarters AND to remind my self about all the points listed below. I am hoping this is going to help us not want to kill each other. Wish us luck!!

Define Personal Zones:

Living in a smaller space doesn't mean you have to be on top of each other all the time. Establish "zones" within your bach where you can retreat for personal time or tasks. A cozy reading nook, a dedicated work corner, or even a comfy chair on the porch can serve as personal havens.

Open Communication:

Clear communication is key when sharing small spaces. Talk openly with your partner about your daily routines, expectations, and any potential conflicts. This will help you better understand each other's needs and find compromises when necessary.

Multi-Functional Furniture:

Invest in multi-functional furniture that maximizes your space. Consider a sofa that transforms into a bed, a foldable dining table, or wall-mounted storage solutions. These pieces help you make the most of your limited square footage.

Declutter Regularly:

When downsizing, it's essential to declutter. Keep only what you truly need and cherish. Regularly assess your belongings and consider donating or selling items that no longer serve a purpose. Minimalism can be incredibly liberating.

Vertical Storage:

Utilize vertical space to your advantage. Install shelves, hooks, and wall-mounted storage units to keep your belongings organized and easily accessible. This is especially helpful for kitchen utensils, books, and decorative items.

Under-Bed Storage:

If you're working with limited closet space, invest in under-bed storage solutions. These can be drawers or bins where you can store off-season clothing, extra linens, or even your luggage.

The Power of Folding:

Master the art of folding. Whether it's clothing, bed linens, or towels, proper folding techniques can save a surprising amount of space.

Label Everything:

When using storage bins or containers, don't forget to label them. Clearly marked containers make it easy to find what you're looking for and maintain order within your limited storage areas.

Outdoor Living:

Make the most of your outdoor space. If your bach has a patio or garden, consider extending your living area there. Use outdoor furniture, add potted plants, and create a beautiful outdoor oasis to enjoy.

Embrace Cozy Aesthetic:

A smaller space can feel cozier and more intimate. Embrace this by using warm, inviting colors and textures. Soft blankets, throw pillows, and rugs can make your bach feel like a comforting haven.

As we continue on this journey, I am hoping that we learn that life in a smaller space is a testament to adaptability and shared experiences. Wish us luck!Stay tuned for more updates, tips, and stories from our petite yet charming new bach. Here's to a life well-lived, even in close quarters. 🌿🏠✨
